New interview with an expert series: Would you upgrade or make-do?  Crunchy or smooth?

First up is account executive Allison Brown, if you would like to hear more about what Allison suggests to those looking for a new system you can email her or call her at (301) 634-2420.

What industry/industries are you currently focused on?

I focus on the not-for-profit industry, specifically associations.

What do you see as the next big trend for that industry?

Social Networking is definitely the big buzz among associations. I wouldn’t really call it a trend, because it is here to stay.  Most of my clients realize that they need to offer social networking sites to recruit and retain their membership/donor bases.  With more limited resources, time and money, constituents are looking for online resources more than ever to collaborate with their peers,  express their ideas, and stay up to date on the latest trends in the industry. If you think that social networking is still for people in their 20’s, consider the statistic that the average blogger is a 37 year old male and that over 80% of 200 recently polled not-for-profits use social networking to raise funds.

I’m certainly not a spring chicken and I along with all of my peers are on multiple social and business networking sites. Even my in-laws are on facebook!

What is the first question that you would ask someone who is considering a new solution for their organization?

What is the biggest challenge that you are facing with your current system and what do you expect to achieve from your new system? It’s very important to understand the issues you expect to resolve with a new system so that you can effectively measure the success.

What was a small mistake that you’ve seen an organization make with their systems that had a big consequence?

Lack of commitment from top management. This is a small but crucial item in determining the success of a new system. Top Management must make the new system a high priority and continuously communicate the importance of the project in order for the organization to fully embrace the new system.

What is your background picture on your computer right now?

Pictures of my children….lights up my day to see them!

Peanut butter:  Crunchy or smooth?

Smooth…I have three young kids, that’s nutty enough for me!
