Dynamics GP 2010:  Top Four Features That Bring Value to Your Organization

Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 has announced its presence into the business community with authority.  Chock full of new and enhanced features, GP 2010 delivers additional ways to collaborate across your organization and increase productivity throughout your team.  We have found the following top four GP 2010 features can bring immediate value to your organization:

1)      Better Insight:  Replacing the two dimensional view to the Metrics in GP with the ability to examine any of the new 119 Charts and KPI’s will enable the User to select those appropriate for keep a finger on the pulse of the business.  This functionality is much deeper than in the past version by incorporating the option to Drill-Back to see underlying details thus creating a more efficient business environment.

2)      Get More Out of Excel:  Microsoft continues to improve the Users ability, naturally based upon security privileges, to access data as required.  The traditional process of printing mountains of reports, rekeying the data into a spreadsheet and performing links or complex calculations is no longer acceptable. With GP 2010, Microsoft has included additional predictive modeling and analysis options by adding another eleven Excel Reports to the near two hundred existing in prior releases.

3)      Create Professional External Documents:  There are twenty-two new MS Word Forms that are more presentable then any of the previous GP release.  Performing modifications to these Forms takes only minutes to complete wherein the User can leverage all the native MS Word fonts and formatting available to create a polished document.   The days of “tired” text reports are gone with this enhancement.   Emailing these forms is also possible in GP 2010 after completing a few simple setup options.

4)      Create mini-applications: Building on Topic 1 and 2 above, GP 2010 Extender module changes the way you think about your application.  If you have every wondered how you to capture additional data in GP, but shied away because of the development estimate, then GP 2010 Extended can be the right solution to deploy.  Anything from creating a simple a pop-up window to capture additional data or to develop a more sophisticated series of additional windows, each can be accomplished by performing a short setup and then deploy the solution.  Basically, you are creating an application within GP that a Non-Developer can manage.

The topics above are intriguing to consider and stress there is even more to bring to bear as part of the GP 2010 upgrade.  Overall, it is all about extending business transaction processing, enhanced reporting and serving up essential data for staff to maintain a competitive position in the respective market.  Given support on GP version 9 will discontinue January 2011, now is the time to decide on a schedule to complete the upgrade.  Staying on the leading edge of technology is often difficult to maintain while at the same time conducting business as usual.  With the recent release of GP 2010 Service Pack 1, there is even more confidence in moving forward with GP 2010.
